A Council West of Melbourne is looking for a Major Developments Planner to join their team from 8th Jan-8th April 2025.

• Full time hours - 3 month contract - potential to extend
• Hybrid working
• $46.71 to $50.86 p/h plus super or depending on experience
• Band 7

Key responsibility areas

• Assess major planning applications, particularly in the growth areas.
• Assist in the development and ongoing administration of Council’s developer contributions system to ensure that nominated infrastructure is provided in a timely manner in accordance with approved Infrastructure and Developer Contributions Plans.
• Act as Council representative on nominated management committees, industry and government advisory committees and at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) as required
• Build strong and co-operative relationships to enable facilitation of appropriate major developments.
• Provide input into the development of strategic planning projects to facilitate transition to the development assessment stage and provide a more seamless assessment process.
• Prepare reports and documentation in relation to planning permit applications.
• Provide advice to the public, developers and the clients of Council in relation to the provisions of the Melton Planning Scheme, Council’s policies and strategies and planning procedures.
• Negotiate with applicants and advisers to satisfactorily resolve development issues.

Specialist skills and knowledge

• A thorough understanding of land use planning principles.
• A thorough understanding of the Victorian planning system, including the Victoria Planning Provisions and ResCode.
• Good knowledge of government policies influencing infrastructure provision, the property markets and financing on the urban fringe.
• Detailed understanding of town planning and subdivision legislation and regulations and Council strategies and policies.
• Proven record in managing major applications.
• Detailed understanding and proven experience dealing with growth area planning issues.
• An understanding of how decisions made fit within the wider context of the City’s longer term objectives and of its values and aspirations.
